How Long Does Artificial Grass Last?
What the warranty promises, what shortens the life of artificial turf, and how a damaged section is repaired, from the warranty and the store's own care routine.
How long does artificial grass last?
Artificial Grass & Landscaping warrants its turf against ultraviolet degradation and excessive fading for 15 years, prorated at 6.67% a year, and against manufacturing defects for 1 year. How long a lawn lasts depends on how heavily it is used, how it was installed and how it is cared for; normal wear and tear is not covered.
The store does not publish a lifespan beyond the warranty, because use and care vary so much: a lawn that is brushed, rinsed and topped up with infill holds up far better than one that is not.
What does the turf warranty cover, year by year?
Fading and UV breakdown are covered for 15 years, but the warranted amount falls by 6.67% each year, to 0% at the end of year 15. Any credit goes toward new Artificial Grass & Landscaping turf, not cash, and covers the turf only, not installation or labor.
| End of year | Warranted |
|---|---|
| 1 | 93.33% |
| 3 | 79.99% |
| 5 | 66.65% |
| 10 | 33.30% |
| 15 | 0.00% |
- The turf must be installed in a suitable location by a licensed installer and maintained by the recommended procedures.
- The warranty is for the original purchaser, with the original sales receipt.
- Slight color variation between production lots, and color change over the life of the turf, are expected and are not defects.
What shortens the life of artificial turf?
Heat, chemicals, neglect and heavy use. Reflections from Low-E windows and other sun magnification can melt the fibers; harsh or caustic cleaners, cuts and burns damage them; and turf that is never brushed, rinsed or topped up with infill wears faster. None of these are covered by the warranty.
- Normal wear and tear depends on how intensely the turf is used, and is not a manufacturing defect.
- Accidents, vandalism, abuse, neglect and acts of nature such as floods and earthquakes are excluded.
- The routine that keeps turf in shape: artificial grass maintenance.
Can artificial grass be repaired?
Often, yes. A damaged section can be cut out and replaced with a new piece of turf, joined to the old with seaming tape and turf adhesive in the same way two pieces are joined in a new installation. Expect a slight color difference, because color varies between production lots and changes with age.
- Seaming Tape C145 (12" x 330 ft): laid under the join, 12 in x 330 ft, $129.00.
- Synthetic Turf Glue / Adhesive DC5 (1 Gallon): bonds the turf to the tape, $79.95 a gallon.
- Small pieces for patches: discounted remnants (final sale).
When should artificial turf be replaced?
Check the warranty first: fading or UV breakdown within 15 years may be covered, prorated. If the blades stay flat after brushing and an infill top-up, or the backing shows through across a wide area, replacing that area or the whole lawn is the remaining option.
Replacement turf is priced per square foot on artificial grass cost.
We provide contractors: installation is done by independent, third-party contractors, not by Artificial Grass & Landscaping staff. Contractor services are available within 40 miles of the Rancho Cordova warehouse; further out, contact us first.
