What supplies do I need to install artificial grass?
Besides the turf, an installation uses weed barrier under the turf, nails or staples to hold it, seaming tape and turf glue to join pieces, infill to help the blades stand up, and edging where the lawn meets beds. Under it all goes a compacted base of base rock and decomposed granite. A 500 sq ft lawn needs about 10 bags of infill and one roll of weed barrier.

How much of each supply do I need?
Infill: one bag per 50 sq ft. Weed barrier: each 6 ft x 300 ft roll is 1,800 sq ft. Seaming tape: the total length of your seams, 330 ft per roll. Edging: one 16 ft board per 16 ft of edge.

Tip: the Installation Cost Calculator's turf-and-supplies rate already includes road base, DG, infill, nails and sand if needed, so you can buy them together with the turf.
What goes under artificial grass?
Remove 3 to 4 inches of soil or sod and grade the surface at 2% for drainage. Lay 2-1/2 to 3 inches of base rock and compact it to 90%, then 1 to 1-1/2 inches of 3/4 in decomposed granite (DG), also compacted to 90%. Weed barrier goes over the base where weeds have been a problem.
- Wire mesh on the soil, under the base rock, keeps gophers out.
- Bender board or metal edging frames the lawn and keeps soil and debris off the turf.

We provide contractors: installation is done by independent, third-party contractors, not by Artificial Grass & Landscaping staff. Contractor services are available within 40 miles of the Rancho Cordova warehouse; further out, contact us first.

One 50 lb bag for every 50 sq ft: 10 bags for 500 sq ft.
Is the infill safe for pets?
Camofill is encapsulated sand with antimicrobial Zinc Omadine to prevent the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew; it is non-toxic and pet safe.
