Artificial Grass on a Patio

Turf on a concrete patio is glued down, not laid on a dug-out base. What the store sells for it, what the adhesive's own description says, and what this page cannot tell you. Prices as of November 6, 2026.

Can you put artificial grass on a patio?

Yes. On a concrete patio the turf is glued to the surface with a turf adhesive. Artificial Grass & Landscaping sells the turf, DC5 turf adhesive, whose catalog description lists concrete among the surfaces it bonds to, and seaming tape for joining pieces. Read the directions on the adhesive and check your surface before you start.

What does DC5 turf glue stick to?

The catalog describes the XGS-DC turf adhesive as a “one part moisture cure urethane adhesive” for bonding to road base, decomposed granite, concrete, asphalt, wood, rubber tiles and foam padding or underlayments. It says the adhesive does not require any mixing or preparation to use, contains no acetone or solvents, and remains pliable.

The 1 gallon and 5 gallon pails are the same adhesive (1 gallon, 5 gallons). Pavers, stone and ceramic tile are not on its list of surfaces: ask before you glue turf to them.

How do you put artificial grass on concrete?

In outline: measure the patio and plan the pieces so there are as few seams as possible, clean the surface, lay the turf out and trim it to the edges, join pieces over seaming tape, and glue the turf down. Follow the directions on the adhesive container for how to spread it and how long to leave it: this page gives only the outline.

  1. Measure the patio in feet and choose a roll width that covers it with the fewest seams: cut turf comes up to 15 ft wide (below).
  2. Clean the surface before you glue.
  3. Lay the turf out and trim it to the edges of the patio.
  4. Where two pieces meet, lay seaming tape under the join and glue both pieces to it.
  5. Glue the turf to the concrete with the turf adhesive, following the directions on its container.

Which artificial grass works on a patio?

The store does not sell a turf made only for patios, and its catalog does not rate one turf above another for concrete. Choose by look, feel and price as for a lawn, and by width: a patio no wider than one roll goes down in one piece with no seam. Lawn turf is cut from 15 ft long, putting turf from 10 ft.

For a small patio, a discounted remnant may already be close to the right size: each is a single piece cut to a set size, sold final sale. Samples hang on the fence outside the warehouse at 3667 Omec Park Drive, Rancho Cordova, to see or take any time, or order free samples online ($14.95 shipping).

How much turf and adhesive does a patio need?

Turf: order pieces that span one side of the patio, each cut to the other, plus 2 ft extra in length, since cuts are within 1 ft. Seaming tape: the length of each seam, 330 ft to a roll. Adhesive: the catalog gives no coverage rate, so this page does not estimate gallons; ask before you order.

Delivery, pickup and installation

  • Pickup at the Rancho Cordova warehouse is free. Local delivery is $279.00 for the first roll or cut piece and $99.00 for each additional one, with supplies riding along at no extra charge; curbside delivery to cities elsewhere in California, Nevada, Oregon, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico and Washington is $449.00 per roll, cut piece or item.
  • We provide contractors: installation is done by independent, third-party contractors, not by Artificial Grass & Landscaping staff. Contractor services are available within 40 miles of the Rancho Cordova warehouse; further out, contact us first.
  • The Installation Cost Calculator prices a lawn laid on a new base of road base and decomposed granite, not a glue-down patio, so contact us about a patio before you rely on its figures.

What this page can't tell you

  • How much adhesive your patio takes, or how long it takes to set: the catalog gives neither, so follow the directions on the container or call (916) 370-5527.
  • Whether your surface will hold the glue: concrete, asphalt and wood are on the adhesive's list; pavers, stone and ceramic tile are not.
  • Whether your HOA has rules about turf: California artificial grass laws.
  • Which turf you will prefer on your patio: the samples on the warehouse fence settle that.
